Unconventional pairings are becoming the convention in Hindi films. And we don't only mean the glaring age disparity between Akshay Kumar and Amy Fernandes in Singh Is Bling or between Aamir Khan in Anushka Sharma in PK.
Unorthodox relationships are being explored in films by new directors. Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Muskhil will feature a very unusual love triangle among Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma.
In Gauri Shinde's untitled film another unusual pair Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt play out a very different karma. While much is not known about how the unusual pair works in Gauri's film a source reveals that they do not play out the traditional man-woman equation. "It's a story of a spunky spirited girl and how her life changes when this older man comes into her life," says a source.
Interestingly Alia and Shah Rukh play their own age in Gauri Shinde's film. "They do not pretend to be in a normal alliance by acting younger/older. Alia is 22 and Shah Rukh is 50 in Gauri's film."
A sign of our cinema attaining belated maturation after a prolonged puberty.
