"I believe that we live in a democracy and hence actors should also have the right of an opinion just like everybody else does," said Priyanka Chopra in a Bollywood HungamaIn exclusive video interview with Faridoon Shahryar. She was reacting to the recent spate of protests against Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan who were massively abused for expressing their opinion about the question of growing intolerance in India.
Priyanka's latest film Bajirao Mastani has faced rough weather with political groups obstructing its shows in cinema halls. Rohit Shetty's Dilwale faced a much bigger damage as reportedly 800 shows were forcibly cancelled with the film releasing in states like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan only on Sunday December 20. Are the film stars soft targets? "I do think that actors are soft targets. Just like how the aam aadmi has the right to express their freedom of speech, similarly we have the right to say something. But jab aam aadmi kuch bolta hai, toh uski rozi roti nahin cheeni jaati. Why does this happen with us? We aren't the only ones that are part of our films. Yes, our faces are on the poster. But there are thousands of people associated with a film - exhibitors, distributors and even the guy selling popcorn in cinema theatres. Their livelihoods get tainted because a film is being taken on and I am against it," Priyanka said.end
