BoxOffice update: Mastizaade opens below average, Saala Khadoos slow

Jan 29 2016 11:45pm
After last week's two releases AIRLIFT and the rather forgettable KYA KOOL HAIN HUM 3 (KKHH3), this week we see the release of two films on somewhat similar lines with an inspirational tale in the form of SAALA KHADOOS and a sex comedy MASTIZAADE.

Reports suggest that MASTIZAADE that features Vir Das, Tusshar Kapoor and Sunny Leone in a double role has got off to a less than average start with occupancy rate being pegged at 30% during morning, while SAALA KHADOOS that features R. Madhavan has got off to a slow start with just a 15-20% occupancy rate. On the other hand, last week's release AIRLIFT continues its run in theatres recording occupancy rates higher than the new releases.

On the whole, MASTIZAADE that caters mainly to the single screen going audience with oodles of raunchy slapstick humour will see a drop after the initial hysteria subsides while SAALA KHADOOS that has received mixed reviews will have to depend on strong word of mouth and is expected to fare better in metros and multiplexes. However, it is AIRLIFT that will emerge as the winner in its second weekend as well, with overall collections getting a boost thanks to the underperformance of the newer releases.end
