Ram Gopal Varma never stops making news of the wrong kind. He has now decided to make erotic short-films for the internet because, in his words, there is no censorship there.
However, Pahlaj Nihalani, the Censor chief, scoffs at RGV's new aspirations, "After failing to run marathon races, Mr. Varma is trying to flex his muscles in short-distance sprints. He is most welcome to do it. But let me remind him that his contention that there is no censorship on youtube and other internet access points is fallacious."
Nihalani points out that the sex comedies thought the same way and fell flat on their faces. "Mastizaade and Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 also thought they could get away with crudity on the internet. But our honourable courts clamped down hard on the content of the teasers on the internet. We at the Censor Board have also received notices from the courts as to how these vulgar teasers got on the internet."
The Censor chief warns RGV to exercise caution. "There is nothing like unlimited freedom. All freedom comes with a sense of responsibility Mr. Varma's first poster for his internet content was so vulgar it couldn't be carried by many mainstream papers. So he must realize censorship is not just about the CBFC. It exists in every right-thinking Indian's mind."end
