Who was Salman Khan partying with last night? View pics!

Jan 31 2016 5:35pm
We told you how Salman Khan has taken a short break from Sultan. He flew to Ahmadabad yesterday to cheer for his brother Sohail’s team in the Celebrity Cricket League. Following which, there are even a couple of pictures doing the rounds on the internet. However, wait until you see these latest pictures from Salman’s after-party that took place last night. Yes! Salman along with Sohail and Bobby Deol rang in special friend Preity Zinta’s birthday and with no surprise, it was one helluva bash.
It was one of those rare moments when Preity got to spend her birthday with Salman and she is totally overwhelmed right now. You can figure that out from her Twitter timeline that’s loaded with pictures of Salman and her from last night’s birthday bash. Her priceless moments with Salman is only making our hearts flutter to see this adorable pair back together onscreen. Even the captions are so adorable. Not wanting to get enough of this unconditional love by Salman, Bobby and others, she has been tweeting stuff like, “Cannot think of a better way to bring in my birthday myfavboys Thank you all for the…” Aww so cute!
For all that we know, Preity insanely admires Salman for constantly standing by here. Remember she had also quoted once saying, “He is one of the nicest, cleanest, sweetest, craziest, maddest and most loyal friends to have. He’s a solid guy. If you have one guy like him as a friend, you don’t need anybody else. I will always be there for him because he stood by me.”
Well, on this note, here’s wishing a HAPPIEST birthday to Preity and we hope to see her spending more priceless moments with Salman! Check out her B’day pictures

There is a lot of respect between me and Salman Khan: Katrina Kaif

Jan 31 2016 2:24pm
Two questions that Katrina deftly tries tackling are the ones involving Ranbir Kapoor and Salman Khan. While in case of Ranbir, she continues to maintain a studious silence, we got her talking a little bit about her one time mentor, Salman Khan.
For someone, who has been her friend, mentor and even one-time alleged lover, Katrina shares a bond of respect with Salman today. -
When quizzed about the exact nature of relationship she shares with Salman, Katrina said, “A relationship or friendship or equation between two people never needs to be defined. It is important only for that two people involved to know what that equation is. In regards to Salman, what I believe in is that between us there is a lot of respect and I am sure you can see that. And for me, respect is a very important factor in any equation. The fact that there is respect says enough and there is no need to say anything more than that.”
When IndianExpress.com  informed Katrina how her appearance with Salman on Bigg Boss had made the show trend nationwide, a modest Katrina tried downplaying it to the grand finale effect. end

See Pics: Salman Khan, Preity Zinta are all smiles as they reunite at the CCL-match

Jan 31 2016 2:17pm
This might be the most amazing thing movie buffs would come across today. Remember how we loved Salman-Preity's on-screen chemistry when the duo featured together in films like 'Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega', 'Dil ne Jise Apnaa Kahaa' and 'Chori Chori Chupke Chupke'? At a recent match in the ongoing CCL, Preity Zinta ran into the superstar Salman Khan; and needless to say the two stars struck up an excellent rapport almost immediately. Reminiscing about good old days, the two of them were snapped smiling and sharing some happy moments. The actress took to twitter to share a picture and captioned it as, "Almost didn't recognize Salman when I saw him his haryanavi vibe is pretty rocking. I promise all the ladies were loving it #friendship #salman #fun #hotty #prettyladies #CCL2016 #mumbaiheros". On the professional front, Preity will next be seen in the action-comedy 'Bhaiyaaji Superhit' and Salman Khan is already pepped up for his upcoming film 'Sultan'

The strategic alliances of Akshay Kumar

Jan 30 2016 5:51pm
You have got to hand it to the man, though he completely denies it. Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia has played his career cards extremely smartly - though 26 years. But why should one not prolong one's career?

Over half of Akshay's films have been with certain filmmakers, and the pattern is pretty clear - Akshay remains associated with a filmmaker as long as they are relevant to the kind of films with which he wants to be associated. It is not about just the hits and the flops, but about the brand that Akshay wants for himself at a particular time.

However, we do not believe in coincidences to the extent that these filmmakers are in sync with the audience only during those times when they are working with him. Almost every filmmaker with whom he has stopped working gradually ebbs out and disappears and this has happened too often to be just a coincidence.

After all, films are about synergy, where a top star benefits a director as much as the other way round. In a recent press release, Akshay has stated that Bhushan Kumar wanting to work with him repeatedly (after Babyand Airlift) is music to his ears. For the record, their association had a flop beginning (the clichéd Humko Deewana Kar Gaye in 2006) but they had found their groove with Bhool Bhulaiya in 2007, in which he played a psychiatrist, almost a decade ago.

"Even after 26 years in the industry, these are the words I want to hear," the star has said. "If my producers are happy, then I am happy too. After all, my forefathers do not belong to cinema. Somewhere, deep within me, there is insecurity on whether I will find work or not. When a producer reassures me that he wants to work with me again, it means I am doing something right. Frankly, that's all I have wanted."

And among the post-1970s stars, Akshay is the only one who has had long associations with so many filmmakers successively. Let us analyze his early career, when he was essentially an action hero.

His first release as a hero was Saugandh under Raj N. Sippy, the prolific filmmaker who ended up giving more flops than hits, and was claimed to be a modest success in 1991. A new actor always wants to associate with a big-name director, and Sippy had made Inkaar and Satte Pe Satta and so many other big films with top stars. Sippy was enamoured of him, and rapidly, the actor worked with him in Mr Bond, Ashaant, Paandav, Ikke Pe Ikka, Amaanat and Zakhmi Dil - all catastrophes.

Another early loyalist of Akshay was producer Keshu Ramsay, who, after (and despite the) poor reception toMr Bond, their first film remained with him through Paandav and Ashaant (also flops) in the early '90s. They finally took anchor with the 1995 hit Sabse Bada Khiladi, followed by the successful Khiladiyon Ke Khiladi. Ramsay ended up making the maximum films in Akshay's Khiladi series (though none was related to each other in any fashion) with the average International Khiladi surrounded by two flops, Mr & Mrs Khiladi andKhiladi 420
In the millennium, Keshu took to three multi-hero films with the actor, the acclaimed Khakee (2004) but also the turnips Insan and Family. But their (Mr) 'Bond' was over - Keshu's standards were going down and the actor was moving up!

Two more early associates of Akshay were the two Darshan brothers. Their films were a mixed bag. Jaanwar, Ek Rishta and Andaaz with Suneel Darshan and Dhadkan with Dharmesh Darshan were the only successful enterprises among flops like Talaash, Dosti-Friends Forever, Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya and Mere Jeevan Sathi. 10 years back, Akshay broke away. The Darshans lost ground completely, but maybe their star had sensed it. When one is upwardly mobile, one gets intuitive.

In 1997, Akshay Kumar did his first film with producer Firoz Nadiadwala - Lahoo Ke Do Rang, a calamity. Strangely, they hit it off well, realized that it was the director's calamity really, and so Akshay was back three years later in his new film, the South Indian remake Hera Pheri, helmed by Priyadarshan. And it was this duo that dared to cast him in a revolutionary comic role. What's more, the film changed forever not just Akshay's image but also his commercial status, ditto Priyadarshan's.

South Indian filmmakers tend to form long liaisons with stars, and Priyan rapidly worked with Akshay inGaram Masala, Bhagam Bhag, Bhool Bhulaiya, De Dana Dan and Khatta Meetha. A charged Firoz also made many more films with Akshay - the hilarious crime caper Awara Pagal Deewana, the intense Aan-Men At Workand the insipid Deewane Huye Pagal. Facing failure with the last two films, Firoz shrewdly got into the sequel bandwagon with Phir Hera Pheri and later came up with Welcome - 6 films in 7 years.

Maybe somewhere Akshay saw in this producer the reluctance to grow beyond the template of multi-star caper comedy and masala, and the actor quietly turned down Welcome Back and Hera Pheri 3

Steady partnerships

In 1992, with the suspense mystery Khiladi, Akshay had broken through into the A-league bracket, collaborating on his first film with Venus Records and Tapes in their capacity as film producers. This was one association that lasted long and was quite variegated and fruitful. Main Khiladi Tu Anari was another fluffy crime drama, and that was followed by Keemat, a flop. Changing genres, Venus entered the millennium withDhadkan and the taut Ajnabee

Venus, clearly, had adapted to the changing times and fortunes of Akshay Kumar. The genres and his roles were changing with each film, and Akshay must have loved the variety. Up next was Garam Masala (2005), a classy sex comedy, and the mediocre (as it turned out) De Dana Dan. But with Venus going into humbler budget films and concentrating more on other aspects of film business, they have parted ways. After all, Akshay is an expensive superstar today.

In 1993, Akshay struck a long-lasting friendship with a dynamic young producer, Sajid Nadiadwala withWaqt Hamara Hai. Sajid took a long while to take off, and Akshay was a major force in his return with their reunion film, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) with Salman Khan. Motion Capture was used for the first time in this film.

This hit rom-com was followed by another film with Salman Khan with a slightly different flavour, Jaan-E-Mann (2006), which flopped. Then came one more flop, with Hollywood stars in cameos - Kambakkht Ishq(2009). But the combination and their friendship was made of sterner stuff. Sajid and a new director, Sajid Khan, made the comedy Heyy Babyy (2007), an emotional story. And then came the first of the franchise,Housefull (2010), which led to Housefull 2 (2012), with Housefull 3 set to come mid-2016.

Akshay's other lasting alliance is with Vipul Amrutlal Shah, whose evolution was right up Akshay's own street. Aankhen, a thriller, and Waqt - The Race Against Time, a family drama, were their first enterprises together, both based on Gujarati plays. Vipul then launched two films simultaneously, the smart Purab Aur Pacchim redux Namastey London and the Anees Bazmee - directed action comedy Singh Is Kinng
In 2010, Vipul and Akshay delivered their only flop, the time-travel love story Action Replayy, but it had one of the actor's finest performances. Their latest film Holiday (in all their films except the first, they were partners in production) was Akshay's first significant film with a patriotic angle - which is his new image.

Last but not the least, is Akshay's newfound liaison with Neeraj Pandey. Beginning with the riveting heist film Special 26, it moved on to Baby. Neeraj is producing Rustom now for the actor, and a sequel to Baby is also on the anvil.

Evolution

At the time of Baby, while discussing this phenomenon, he had said, "At any point such bonding happens, I think, when a filmmaker wants to make a certain kind of film and you want to act in the same kind of movie."

But as Akshay may not admit, there is more to this happy state of affairs than just these convenient coincidences. For Akshay therefore, his career has been about a strategic making or breaking of alliances.end

Sanam Re, Sanam Teri Kasam, Loveshhuda , Fitoor smoothly receive Censor certification

Jan 30 2016 5:49pm
This Valentine season the censor board is in the mood to fall in love with love. Four romantic films have been cleared with virtually no cuts.

First one off the shelf is Loveshhuda, a rom-com featuring Girish Taurani and debutante Navneet Kaur Dhillon on February 19. The film has been certified with a UA with no cuts. Though there were certain shots, dialogues and situations that were sexual in nature, the censor board raised no objection as the producer agreed to a 'UA'

However, the co-directors Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao of the other Valentine release Sanam Teri Kasam (which opens on 5th February) were keen on a 'U' certificate. So they were asked to snip off small portions of their dialogues.

Divya Khosla's love triangle Sanam Re featuring Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam and Urvashi Rautela which opens on February 12 has been certified with a 'U' and no cuts.

Abhishek Kapoor's Katrina-centric Kashmiri confection Fitoor, to release on February 12 has been cleared for release this Valentine's Day with virtually no cuts. Says a source close to the development, "Fitoor has been given no visual cuts. There were three abusive words which were deleted and replaced. But that's about it. The censor board feels no need to unnecessarily intervene."

Says Pahlaj Nihalani, "We saw no reason to cut anything in these romantic films. They are clean decent films. Even for Prakash Jha's Jai Gangaajal, we were willng to grant 'A' certificate with no cuts. But Prakash Jha wanted a 'UA' with no cuts."end

Padma Bhushan Anupam Kher vows to steer clear of dubious films

Jan 30 2016 11:19am
"With such a prestigious recognition from the Government comes a great responsibility," says actor-author-activist Anupam Kher who has been awarded with the Padma Bhushan by the Indian government.

Kher, who until recently accepted all sorts of film roles including slapstick comedies has lately been saying no to lowbrow entertainment. Recently, he turned down Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 after being a part of the first two films in the series.

Says Anupam, "Yes, I did say no to the film you mention. But it's not because I've stopped enjoying lowbrow comedies or any other genre of mass entertainment. It's just that with time I've outgrown the need to be seen in every kind of cinema. I am comfortable doing massy cinema. But the audiences are not. Sometimes it is important to live up to people's expectation along with your own."

Anupam is hugely fulfilled with the Padma Bhushan. "In 2004 I had been given the Padma Shri. 10 years later the Government has recognized my work with the Padma Bhushan. I guess it is an acknowledgement of my growth as a human being and a professional in the last decade."

The actor who has lately been battling cynical remarks about an 'Intolerant India' says he feels the change within himself. "I feel the change and the growth in me. My work, my various activities give me my identity. 90 percent of what one does is monotony. It's that other ten percent which gives meaning to one's existence. My father, a clerk in the forestry department spent 35 years of his life doing the same work every day. He would wake up at 7 am and get ready for work with the same enthusiasm every day until he retired. I imbibed the sense of discipline and dedication towards my work from my father. I therefore dedicate my Padma Bhushan to my father."

Without naming Karan Johar, Anupam Kher criticizes the filmmaker-socialite for his recent comments on intolerance and a lack of freedom of expression in India. "For people who move around in high-end cars with bouncers and security guards, to even mention intolerance is ridiculous. To say freedom of expression in our country is a joke, is the biggest joke of all, as those complaining are the ones who have never known a day's curb or check on their freedom."

During the coming year, Anupam promises to do the kind of work that would take him further ahead on the road to self-realization. He is very close to signing another major Hollywood film.

We recently missed Anupam Kher in director David O'Russell's Joy which brought together the entire core cast of Russell's highly-acclaimed Silver Linings Playbook except Anupam.

Says Anupam, "I did ask David Russell why I was not part of Joy. He said he didn't want to waste me. I agree with him. I don't want to be wasted in anything I do."end

BoxOffice update: Mastizaade opens below average, Saala Khadoos slow

Jan 29 2016 11:45pm
After last week's two releases AIRLIFT and the rather forgettable KYA KOOL HAIN HUM 3 (KKHH3), this week we see the release of two films on somewhat similar lines with an inspirational tale in the form of SAALA KHADOOS and a sex comedy MASTIZAADE.

Reports suggest that MASTIZAADE that features Vir Das, Tusshar Kapoor and Sunny Leone in a double role has got off to a less than average start with occupancy rate being pegged at 30% during morning, while SAALA KHADOOS that features R. Madhavan has got off to a slow start with just a 15-20% occupancy rate. On the other hand, last week's release AIRLIFT continues its run in theatres recording occupancy rates higher than the new releases.

On the whole, MASTIZAADE that caters mainly to the single screen going audience with oodles of raunchy slapstick humour will see a drop after the initial hysteria subsides while SAALA KHADOOS that has received mixed reviews will have to depend on strong word of mouth and is expected to fare better in metros and multiplexes. However, it is AIRLIFT that will emerge as the winner in its second weekend as well, with overall collections getting a boost thanks to the underperformance of the newer releases.end

Akshay Kumar and Bhushan Kumar a winning combo at the box office

Jan 29 2016 11:42
How often do you see an actor and producer combo that works well film after film on the big screen? Well actor Akshay Kumar and producer Bhushan Kumar are just that, with not one or two but three consecutive hits in the form of Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Baby and now Airlift

While Baby was termed as a dramatic action packed thriller, Airlift which tells the tale of one of the largest evacuations in recent history has been receiving rave reviews from the critics and audience alike. Commenting on the same, the actor says, "Bhushan and I work well together. He takes care of the music and I take care of the rest." Adding in the same breath Bhushan says, "For Baby, songs were not an integral part of the narrative and I understood that. However, I wanted to be associated with the film because it was a fabulous script. It also had Akshay and Neeraj Pandey associated with it."

Further talking about the balance the two struck for Airlift, Akshay added, "Once again, songs were not important to this film, yet Bhushan found a couple of soundtracks like 'Soch Na Sake' and 'Tu Bhoola Jise' that fit in and were completely unobtrusive to the narrative. Both songs are hits and I salute Bhushan for that." The Bollywood superstar continues, "When Bhushan is expressing his happiness over something, he is genuine. I remember what he said around the time of Baby. He said, Akshay sir, Baby may have done a 'box office business of 90 cr'. However, it got me the 'respectability of a 200 cr project'. Likewise with Airlift, I could feel a sense of pride in his voice when he called to tell me the response to the film from across the world."

Bhushan says, "By now, Akshay sir and I have earned each other's trust. I'm hoping to take our association forward with many more projects." Flashing his infectious smile, Akshay adds, "Even after 26 years in the industry, these are the words I want to hear. If my producers are happy, then I'm happy. After all, my forefathers do not belong to cinema. Somewhere deep within me is an insecurity on whether I will find work or not. When a producer smiles and reassures me that he wants to work with me again, it makes me extremely proud. It means I am doing something right. Frankly, that's all I have wanted."end

Well the film by Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan; MSG 2 The Messenger has done just that. Movie Review:Mastizaade

Jan 29 2016 11:30pm
This week's release is the Tusshar Kapoor-Vir Das-Sunny Leone starrer Mastizaade. If you were wondering as to what the term 'Mastizaade' means, then, Riteish Deshmukh does the honours in the film's trailers wherein he explains "Jise duniya kehti hai haraamzaada, jise pyaar se ladkiyaan kehti hain 'aur zyaada', wahi hota hai asli mastizaada". The film's promos promise a double dose of Sunny Leone and a triple dose of fun and masti. Will the film live upto its expectations or fail to rise (no pun intended) at the box-office, let's analyse.

Mastizaade starts off with the 'sparkling' introduction of Riteish Deshmukh, a self-confessed 'mastizaada'. Seeing his antics and his magnetism towards the opposite sex, makes the two self-confessed sex maniacs Aditya Chotiya (Vir Das) and Sunny Kele (Tusshar Kapoor) to become his disciples. While Aditya and Sunny get thrown out of an ad agency owned by Vivek Vaswani because of their extremely sexual content in all their ads, they land up starting their own ad agency named 'XXX'. On the other hand, in order to find a solution for their sexual obsessions, they check into a rehabilitation centre that's run by the twin sisters (who are sex addicts themselves) Laila Lele (Sunny Leone) and Lilly Lele (Sunny Leone again). While Laila Lele is modernity personified, Lilly Lele is a girl with simple values, but, stammers while talking. A lucky draw in the rehab centre wins Aditya and Sunny a trip to Pattaya alongwith Laila and Lily. Amidst all this, Aditya and Sunny land up falling in love with Laila and Lilly respectively. The problem is that Lilly Lele is already engaged to Deshpremi (Shaad Randhawa), a wheelchair bound wannabe army man who finds it tough to 'stand' on his feet. Amidst all this, there also exists 'Son-Das' (Suresh Menon), who happens to be the 'stereotypical gay' brother of Lilly and Laila. Situations go topsy-turvy when he starts developing feelings towards Sunny Kele. What happens to Aditya and Sunny in the end, do they get the love of their lives, who ultimately gets Sunny Kele between Lilly Lele and 'Son-Das' and do these 'mastizaades' find a solution to their sexual obsessions is what forms the rest of the film.

The film's director Milap Zaveri, who had made his directorial debut with JAANE KAHAN SE AAYI HAI and is best known his scripting abilities in many hit films, makes a 'comeback' as a director with MASTIZAADE. Even though one is mentally prepared for the kind of adult humour that the film promises to offer, still, one feels let down with MASTIZAADE. The reason being that Milap Zaveri, in an attempt to make a sex-comedy, goes extremely overboard and directionless with the film. Add to that, the film's baseless story (Mushtaq Sheikh, Milap Zaveri) which only makes the film extremely unbearable. The film is nothing but an onscreen amalgamation of one liners and punches with an overload of clichés jokes and viral videos.

As for the performances, when you have a film that has Sunny Leone in a double role, it's no rocket science to say that the camera refuses to leave her even for a second. The sad part is that despite having a double role, Sunny Leone fails to leave the much desired impact on the viewers. There's no doubt that she is indeed an eye candy, but, as they say that anything in excess becomes poison and MASTIZAADE is a perfect example of this saying. Tusshar Kapoor, who just had a similar kind of (read 'genre') film release last week in the form of KYA KOOL HAI HUM 3 (KKHH3), again struggles due to poor script. His act in MASTIZAADE seems to be an extension of his KKHH3. On the other hand, Vir Das too suffers due to similar reason but supports Tusshar well in carrying the film. Gizele Thakral (who plays the role of Titli Boobna) also seems to be suffering from a KKHH3 hangover. Besides the regular skin show and 'Titli-ation' and a few blonde acts, there is hardly anything to write about her. Suresh Menon, who has by now, got stereotyped into his (in)famous gay man act, offers a few laughs. Even though you would have wanted to see more of Riteish Deshmukh and his antics in this film, the sad part is that he is only in a cameo. A veteran actor like Asrani is totally wasted and one really feels sorry to see him in such a mindless film. The rest of the actors do no good in moving the film forward.

Barring a couple of tracks, the film's music (Amaal Mallik, Meet Bros Anjjan, Anand Raj Anand) is average. On the other hand, the film's background music (Sanjoy Chowdhury) is just about ok. While the film's cinematography (Sanjay F Gupta) is poor and also amateurish at places, the film's editing (Nitin Rokade) is good.

On the whole, MASTIZAADE comes across as a ludicrous movie with an absurdly inept story and screenplay. After the initial hysteria subsides the film will struggle at the box office due to its weak content.end
